Northern states maintain leadership in exports

Mexico City, At the end of the second quarter of 2024, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Baja California, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Guanajuato, mainly states on the northern border, contributed 59 percent to the total value of exports.

According to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), when presenting the results of the Quarterly Exports by Federal Entity (ETEF), Chihuahua, whose contribution to the total value of exports was 13.1 percent, was the state that topped said list; despite the fact that its exports of 18,311.3 million dollars represented a fall of 2.1 percent annually.

For its part, Coahuila, whose contribution to the country’s exports was 12.7 percent in the second quarter of this year, and which amounted to 17 thousand 662.6 million dollars, which represented an advance of 9.4 percent with respect to the second quarter of 2023.

Baja California, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas explained exports with 10.3, 9.9 and 6.6 percent, respectively. The annual behavior of its sales abroad rose 4.4 percent for Baja California; They fell 2.8 percent in Nuevo León and increased 6.7 percent in Tamaulipas.

For its part, Guanajuato contributed to Mexican exports with a share of 6.4 percent; since its exports increased 10.9 percent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, adding 8,927.9 million dollars.

The rest of the federal entities explained 41 percent of the exports, which grew together 2.6 percent, to total 57 thousand 95 million dollars.

Higher contributions

In their annual comparison, the five entities with the greatest increases in the value of their exports were: Quintana Roo, with 103 percent; Oaxaca, with 39.4 percent; Nayarit, with 30.2 percent; Yucatán, with 21.4 percent and Colima, with 19.6 percent.

In April-June 2024, the transportation equipment manufacturing subsector stood out for its participation in the total value of exports, with 40.3 percent; where Chihuahua (8.7 percent); Nuevo León (8.1 percent) and Puebla and San Luis Potosí (7.3 percent, each), were the entities with the greatest contribution in said activity; Likewise, they concentrated 63.8 percent of the value of these exports.

The Inegi specified that those who contributed to the exports of computing, communication, measurement equipment and other electronic equipment, components and accessories in the reference period were: Chihuahua (37.7 percent); Baja California (19.5 percent); Jalisco (17.4 percent); Tamaulipas (9.5 percent) and Nuevo León (6 percent). Together they added up to 90.1 percent.

Campeche, with a contribution of 56.4 percent; Tabasco, 37.1 percent; Veracruz, 4.5 percent; Chiapas, 1.4 percent and Tamaulipas, 0.6 percent, accounted for the total exports of the oil and gas extraction subsector.

During the reference period, the states with the highest participation in exports of the agriculture subsector were: Sonora (22.6 percent); Michoacán (21.2 percent); Sinaloa (14.2 percent); Jalisco (8.1 percent); Baja California (7 percent) and Guanajuato (5.4 percent). The six entities added up to 78.5 percent.
