Northern German States Demand More Funding for Ports Amidst Expensive Maintenance

According to Bremen’s Finance Senator Fecker, the state of Bremen will receive ten million for its ports. That is far from enough because of the expensive maintenance.

The finance ministers of the five northern German states are demanding more money for the ports. The federal government is currently paying just 38 million for all seaports, says Bremen’s Finance Senator Björn Fecker (Greens). The state of Bremen will receive around ten million euros from this, according to the finance department. But given the expensive maintenance of the ports, that is just a drop in the ocean. With a view to hydrogen imports and offshore wind power, a lot will have to be invested in the ports in the future, said Fecker.

Bremen’s mayor Bovenschulte had also called for more money from the federal government for the ports. Financing will also be a topic at the national maritime conference in Bremen next week.
