The heads of government of the five northern German federal states will exchange views in Bremen on Friday. The so-called Northern Germany Conference (KND) includes Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Bremen currently holds the presidency. At their last meeting at the end of March in the Hanseatic city, the heads of government discussed how they could benefit more economically from being the main location of the energy transition.
A discussion with chambers of industry and commerce and business associations in the five countries is also planned for Friday. The heads of government of Bremen and Hamburg, Andreas Bovenschulte and Peter Tschentscher (both SPD), will provide information about the deliberations at 3 p.m. In the KND, the coastal and port states coordinate and represent their common interests vis-à-vis the federal government. At the end of the meeting on Friday, the presidency will be handed over from Bremen to Hamburg as scheduled.
