A negative test to pass Christmas with family. That’s what thousands of truck drivers are desperately waiting for this Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Dover, UK, where traffic resumed very gradually this morning. To support the British testing system, 15 firefighters from the North and 10 civil protection volunteers were sent to the site.
10,000 antigenic tests
As a reminder, Sunday December 20, 2020, France, like other European countries, suspended for 48 hours the movement of passengers and goods from the United Kingdom following the appearance of a variant of Covid-19. Since Wednesday, returns have been authorized, provided they have a negative Covid test of less than 72 hours.
In Dover, where thousands of truck drivers are stranded, the tests must therefore be carried out on a very large scale. To allow nationals to quickly reach the European continent and to guarantee the flow of traffic, Michel Lalande, prefect of the North defense and security zone, and the Department of the North have provided support to the British authorities in carrying out the Covid tests .
So 15 firefighters and 10 civil protection volunteers left at 2 a.m. last night. “They bring with them 10,000 antigenic tests”, indicates the prefecture of the North. And since 6am, they have been carrying out tests with truck drivers. They should be back at 7pm tonight at Loon-Plage, just in time to spend Christmas Eve with their families.
