The driver, also 16, was arrested. Three other minors with minor injuries were transported to hospitals in Lille and Roubaix.

“The police crew was not in pursuit”

According to the DDSP, the car, in which three boys and three girls, all aged 15 to 17, had taken place, fled when a police vehicle passing it turned around to check it by turning on its flashing lights. The driver “burned lights and took roundabouts in the wrong direction” before his vehicle hit the sidewalk and overturned.

“The police crew was not in pursuit” at the time of the accident which occurred very quickly, but “followed the car by signaling its progress and asking for means”, affirmed the DDSP.
