North-South metro in Brussels: the direct link between tram line 7 and the future metro line delights the municipality of Forest

The Region and the STIB have found a technical solution which will make it possible to directly link the Albert terminus station to the university districts (ULB-VUB) of Ixelles. The municipality of Forest welcomed this Thursday by means of a press release.

Without predicting a route for the subsequent deployment to Wiels, a space has been mobilized to create a terminus for tram line 7, which is important for Forestoises and Forestois. In addition to the connection to the center and the North, this access to the south of Brussels will, among other things, make it possible to quickly and directly connect the university and the Bois de la Cambre.“, commented Thursday the college of mayors and aldermen of Forest.

He was delighted that a solution had “could finally be found to extend tram 7 (note: from place Vanderkinderen) to Albert station.

A better way to connect Albert to the bottom of Forest

“This solution increases the public transport offer for Forest residents and leaves the necessary time to decide on the best way to connect Albert to the bottom of Forest by tram, without slowing down the Albert project”said the alderwoman for Mobility Esmeralda Van den Bosch.

According to the cabinet of the Brussels Minister for Mobility, Elke Van den Brandt (Groen), the solution adopted consists of the addition of a third lane at -1 of the Albert station (note: in the process of being transformed) to allow three lines instead of 2 to have their terminus there. These lines will therefore be 4, 51 + 7.

For the customer, there will be direct station connections with the metro at level -2 for users of the three tram lines.

The solution has no impact on the timing of the construction site. It should be completed by 2026.
