Greek public opinion fell from the clouds again after the election of the far-right VMRO in North Macedonia. No one examined the cause but again the effect.
So the developments – that is, the election result – puts the Prespa Agreement under the microscope of far-right journalists.
From the first moment, the argument of the protestors in Greece, the so-called “Macedonian fighters”, the right-extreme right-wing amalgamation, hastened to support how harmful and even… treacherous the Agreement brought by Nikos Kotzias was.
Now, the far-right rhetoric of the VMRO, which will primarily cause problems in the neighboring country itself will be seen in the next period of time, suggests that it will return to purely “Macedonia”. After all, he entered the elections as a formation with the name “Your Macedonia”(!) and no one in Greece was bothered.
Of course, all this comes as a natural consequence of a more general situation. In the immediate past, unknown persons vandalized signs in Skopje.

With the signing of the Prespa Agreement, signs were placed on statues in North Macedonia, which refer to ancient persons or themes, explaining that they belong to ancient Greek history, against redemptive tendencies.
As part of the Agreement, the neighboring country was forced to separate its history from the Greek one.
The objections and the question
In the name, again. To enter into a negotiation, you have to sit at the table. Throughout time, the Greek governments that sat at these tables, negotiated (with or without quotes) for names with double, even triple(!) use in one period. Different inside the country (where 9/10 times it was plain Macedonia), and one for the outside with a complex name in which the term “Macedonia” was unmentioned. After all, it was a component even in the complex name “Macedonia” for many years, although many pretended not to see it. The question was, therefore, whether the determination will be geographical (s.s. North Macedonia), and whether in this way it will cut down on libertarianism and above all be erga omnes, that is, for all uses.
Now, therefore, that the neighboring country has been named “North Macedonia”, he agreed to make constitutional changes, to disconnect the history of Skopje from the Greek one and to build a relationship of friendship between the two countries (at the same time putting a “brake” on the flirtation with Ankara ), the far-right VMRO government is changing its rhetoric. Or at least it seems so.
After all, predictions are the safest way to get exposure. However, the conclusion from the developments of the last few days in North Macedonia is divided into two strands. First, it is a reminder of how dangerous and damaging far-right rhetoric is, across time, globally. Secondly, the reactions recorded by the Kotzias-Dimitroff Agreement in the neighboring country, even almost six years later, prove that if nothing else it was not a bad agreement for Greece, especially in the area of liberation.
In any case, a “new” situation is taking shape in North Macedonia. It remains to be answered whether Athens will read the developments correctly. But the extreme right, and liberationisms open Aeolos’ bag.
