North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who is visiting Russia, invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit North Korea, and President Putin gladly accepted, North Korea’s state-run media Korean Central News Agency reported today (14th).
The news agency added that Chairman Kim politely invited President Putin to visit North Korea, and that President Putin accepted the invitation, once again expressing his will to continue the history and tradition of North Korea-Russia friendship.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters immediately after the summit yesterday (13th) that there are currently no plans for President Putin to visit North Korea.
At the same time, he explained that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has agreed to meet with Foreign Minister Choe Son-hee soon, and that the meeting could take place in North Korea as early as next month.
The leaders of North Korea and Russia met at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Amur Region for the first time in four years and five months and appear to have confirmed strengthening cooperation in various fields, including arms trade.
