For the whole year 2022, North Korea launched several ballistic missiles. This missile hit sparked protests because it was aimed at Japan towards South Korea.
Registered, North Korea never fired a ballistic missile toward Japan in October 2022.
Reported by AFP extensionOn Tuesday (4/10/2022) at 7:29 am on Monday (3/10) local time, the country’s missile warning system was activated, with a screen showing national broadcaster NHK switching to a warning message .
“It appears that North Korea has launched a missile. Please evacuate in the building or underground,” the warning read.
NHK said the alert is in effect for the two northern regions of Japan. At around 8am local time, the prime minister’s office later tweeted that “a projectile that appears to be a North Korean ballistic missile may have flown over Japan.”
Meanwhile, the Japanese coast guard said in a statement that the missile appears to have landed in the sea. The Coast Guard also warned vessels not to approach falling objects.
Japan strongly condemns the launch of missiles
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida strongly condemned it. Kishida called the ballistic missile he believed passed through his country an act of violence.
“It is believed that a ballistic missile passed over our country and crashed in the Pacific Ocean. This is an act of violence following the recent launch of a ballistic missile. We strongly condemn it,” Kishida told reporters.
