North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un to Hold Talks with Russian President Putin on Arms Negotiations

The White House revealed – Monday – that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intends to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia within the framework of the “arms negotiations” taking place between the two countries with the aim of supplying Moscow with North Korean weapons.

“As we have warned publicly, arms negotiations between Russia and the DPRK are progressing rapidly,” said Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the US National Security Council.

“We have information that Kim Jong-un expects these talks to continue to include diplomatic dialogue in Russia at the level of leaders,” she told media.

And the official spokesman for the National Security Council, John Kirby, expressed – last Wednesday – his concern about the rapid progress in these negotiations on future arms shipments from Pyongyang to Moscow, and called on the communist regime to “put an end” to these discussions.

Kirby revealed that these potential deals will lead to Russia obtaining large quantities of weapons, especially artillery ammunition, in addition to raw materials for the defense industries.

For her part, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield added that these weapons “will be used against Ukraine.”

The New York Times quoted US officials as saying that Kim Jong Un plans to travel to Russia this month to meet his Russian counterpart.

exchange of interests

According to the American newspaper, Putin wants his country to get artillery and anti-tank missiles, while the North Korean leader wants Russia to provide his country with advanced technology for satellites and nuclear submarines.

And the United States, Britain, South Korea and Japan announced last week at the United Nations, in a joint statement, that any agreement to increase bilateral cooperation between Russia and North Korea would be a violation of UN Security Council resolutions banning arms deals with Pyongyang, which are decisions supported by Moscow itself.

The two leaders held a summit in April 2019 in the city of Vladivostok, in eastern Russia, during which they discussed settling the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the North Korean nuclear file, and bilateral relations between the two countries.
