(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hyun Hye-ran = The North Korean government delegation headed by Foreign Minister Choe Son-hee returned to Korea on the 19th after completing an official visit to Russia, the Korean Central News Agency reported.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Chol-jun, Temporary Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in North Korea Vladimir Topeha, and Attaché Valery Isaenko welcomed Foreign Minister Choi and others at Pyongyang International Airport.
Foreign Minister Choi, who arrived in Moscow on the 14th, left Moscow on the 18th after meeting with President Vladimir Putin, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The Kremlin announced on the 17th that Foreign Minister Choi met with Foreign Minister Lavrov on the afternoon of the 16th, and that afternoon on the same day, he visited President Putin at the Kremlin Palace and reported the results of the meeting between the North Korean and Russian foreign ministers.
The Kremlin did not disclose the details of the meeting, but judging from the fact that Foreign Minister Choi’s entourage at the time was holding a document titled ‘List of Observation Subjects in the Space Technology Field’, it is presumed that they discussed ways to cooperate on reconnaissance satellites, etc.
In addition, since Cho Chun-ryong, head of the Workers’ Party’s Military Industry Department, who is responsible for the production of North Korea’s conventional artillery shells, attended President Putin’s visit and the North Korea-Russia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, weight is placed on the possibility that the two countries also discussed military cooperation measures such as arms trade.
In addition, it is expected that President Putin’s visit schedule to North Korea has been coordinated. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that Minister Lavrov and Foreign Minister Choi discussed the schedule for future political contacts.
President Putin accepted Chairman Kim Jong-un’s invitation to the North Korea-Russia summit held in Russia in September last year. President Putin visited North Korea in July 2000, when Kim Jong-il was in power.
