Relationship between North Korea (North Korea) e South Korea (South Korea) it’s getting hotter lately. The two countries exchanged fire in the sea on the border with North and South Korea.
The South Korean army fired warning shots at a North Korean ship because it was thought to have crossed the sea border. This prompted North Korea to fire warning shots in exchange.
According to a report by the Yonhap news agency, a North Korean merchant ship allegedly crossed what is known as the Northern Limit Line near Baengnyeong Island at 3:42 am local time. However, the ship retreated north after the Southern Navy fired warning shots.
Citing a North Korean military statement, the Korean People’s Army said a South Korean military ship breached the de facto border 2.5 to 5 km (1.5 to 3 miles) minutes later and South Korean soldiers or the KPA have fired 10 warning shots in that direction in response.
“We are once again resolutely warning opponents who carry out maritime provocations on artillery fire and cross-border loudspeaker broadcasts,” a spokesman for the KPA staff said in a statement.
The maritime border is considered a critical point and over the years has been the scene of numerous clashes between North and South Korea.
