North Korea to Welcome Russian President Putin with All Sincerity – KCNA Statement

North Korea considers Russian President Vladimir Putin to be the closest friend of the Korean people and is ready to meet him with all sincerity, KCNA said in a statement following the visit of Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee to Russia.

KCNA noted that Putin “once again expressed deep gratitude” for the invitation to North Korea and “expressed readiness” to visit the country as soon as possible.

“The government of the DPRK warmly welcomes President Putin’s visit to our country and is ready to welcome the closest friend of the Korean people with all sincerity,” the publication said.

In mid-January, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov reported that Putin’s visit to North Korea could take place in the foreseeable future.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited Putin to the country in September 2023 during a visit to Russia. Then Peskov said that the president “with gratitude” accepted the invitation.

The last time Putin was in North Korea was in 2000, when in Pyongyang he met with the father of Kim Jong-un – Kim Jong Il. As a result of the negotiations, the heads of state agreed, in the event of a danger of aggression against Russia or the DPRK, to “immediately come into contact with each other.”
