North Korea Shuts Down Radio Station Amid Rising Tensions with South Korea

Recently, there are reports that the tension between North and South Korea has intensified. To make this clear, the Pyongyang radio station on the North Korean border has now been shut down. Earlier there were allegations that North Korea was transmitting secret messages to its operatives through this radio station. Kim Jong Un ordered the temporary closure of the rodeo station.

Radio Pyongyang, also known as Voice of Korea, is a radio station known for its entertainment content. South Korea alleged that the number sequences broadcast from this radio station were encoded messages for North Korean agents. Yonhap News Agency reported that the website of the radio station was removed as part of the closure of the radio station. Moreover, reports say that Kim Jong Un has instructed that government approval be obtained before broadcasting any messages.

There are also assessments that this is part of a broader plan to reorganize internal relations between the two Koreas, which was discussed at the country’s Workers’ Party meeting last month. But there is no official confirmation in this regard. North Korea’s radio and television are tightly controlled by the government and broadcast mainly programs praising Kim Jong Un. At the same time, foreign channels are not allowed to broadcast in the country.
