[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Kim Tae-hoon = Regarding the summit meeting between North Korea and Russia, the President’s Office said on the 14th, “It is currently in progress, so it is too early to determine the outcome midway and make a final evaluation.”

An official from the Presidential Office met with reporters at the Presidential Office in Yongsan this afternoon and said, “We are closely observing and analyzing all progress.”

North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a summit meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur Region on the 13th. Accordingly, there are concerns in the international community that North Korea may be providing additional weapons support while Russia is at war with Ukraine.

President Yoon Seok-yeol plans to deliver a message related to the North Korea-Russia summit in his keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York, USA on the 20th (local time).

An official from the President’s Office said, “We expect that there will be an appropriate analysis and message from President Yoon Seok-yeol regarding military exchanges between North Korea and Russia in his speech at the UN General Assembly,” adding, “We will discuss individual measures we can take with our major allies, including the United States and Japan. “We are also discussing multilateral measures,” he said.

When asked whether the North Korea-Russia summit could lead to a change in South Korea’s stance of not providing lethal weapons to Ukraine, the official said, “The fact that Korea announced a comprehensive package and initiative to provide security, humanitarian, and reconstruction support to Ukraine is a bilateral relationship.” He replied, “It is something we have carefully considered about what is most important,” and added, “It is not normal for the position to change suddenly in a day or two just because the surrounding forces take certain actions.”

He added, “We will continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine and discuss what Ukraine needs.”

When asked whether the obligation discussed during the Camp David Korea-U.S.-Japan summit would be invoked, an official said, “Currently, there are no discussions on activating the obligation for consultation between the three countries in the event of a crisis at Camp David.” “It is a violation of the resolution of the Security Council. Also, because it is a betrayal of international security, we are looking at it from a macro perspective, and specific measures will be taken at the UN level,” he explained.

He added, “Currently, we are not linking this issue to Camp David, but perhaps we will consciously discuss it as an extension of the (Camp David Agreement) since the U.S. and Japanese security lines also promised trilateral cooperation on Camp David.”

Regarding the recent announcement by the head of Ukraine’s intelligence agency that North Korea’s rockets are being supplied to Russia, he said, “It is difficult to say specifically because it is a government matter,” but added, “We have confirmed for a very long time that the weapons provided by North Korea were used in the Ukraine war.” “It is a matter,” he said.

When asked whether high-level communication is taking place between China and China in relation to this incident, the official said, “It is natural that China is reticent to talk about issues that have developed within Russia, and communication is taking place between Korea and China.” He added, “And even with Russia. “Communication is taking place between our countries,” he said.
