It appears President Biden is receiving the silent treatment from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The United States has contacted North Korea unsuccessfully since mid-February, a senior Biden administration official said. Reuters on condition of anonymity. The official provided few details, but said Washington had tried to get Kim’s attention through “several channels,” including Pyongyang’s mission to the United Nations in New York. “To date, we have not received any response from Pyongyang,” the official said. Reuters, adding that it appears that there has not been an active dialogue between the United States and North Korea for over a year, including the final months of the Trump administration.
Former President Donald Trump has met with Kim three times, and it turned out that the two leaders have developed a surprising personal relationship, but their historic talks have made little headway in terms of nuclear negotiations and the commitment has ultimately failed. The Biden administration, meanwhile, has kept its plans for North Korea largely under wraps, saying only that a full policy review is underway.
