North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “expressed his intention to resume the broken North-South communication lines,” describing this step as an attempt to establish “lasting peace” on the Korean Peninsula.
On July 27, both sides resumed communication, but after two weeks North Korea broke off relations again, opposing the US-South Korean military exercises.
Since then, Pyongyang has carried out a series of missile tests, thus increasing tensions between the countries.
