North Korea launches two short-range ballistic missiles

SEOUL, March 14 / WAM / Today, North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea, one day after the launch of joint and periodic military exercises between South Korea and the United States.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected the launch in the Gangneon area of South Hwanghae Province, stressing that the military maintains a posture of full readiness in close cooperation with the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The launch came two days after North Korea launched what it claimed were “two cruise missiles” from a submarine from the Sinpo area last Sunday, in protest against the joint and periodic military exercises between Seoul and Washington, “The Shield of Freedom”, which began on Monday and will continue until the 23rd of this month without interruption.

This is the fifth time that Pyongyang has launched a ballistic missile this year after its last launch of 6 close-range ballistic missiles in Nampo region on the afternoon of March 9.
