North Korea launches new missile, announces resumption of nuclear tests

Nuclear tests in the DPRK were stopped five years ago.

North Korea said it had successfully tested the new weapon, which would greatly improve its tactical nuclear capabilities.

About it informs BBC, referring to information from the official news agency KCNA.

“A new type of tactical guided weapon (…) is of great importance for dramatically improving the firepower of forward long-range artillery units and increasing the effectiveness of tactical nuclear weapons,” the DPRK said.

The agency also releases a photo of Kim Jong Un smiling and clapping as he watches the launch of a new rocket.

The South Korean military has confirmed that it is about the launch of two missiles, probably short-range, launched from the north into the sea on April 16 in the evening.

Experts believe that this is a sign that North Korea plans to test compact nuclear weapons – that is, tactical nuclear weapons – in the near future.

North Korea suspended nuclear testing in 2017.

The following year, it blew up the tunnels at its Pungyere nuclear test site, seen as part of a diplomatic rapprochement with South Korea and the United States.

But the latest satellite images show that work is underway to restore the tunnels.

Recall that earlier the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, visited the state space agency and said that the reconnaissance satellite being created in his country is intended to collect information about the US military in the region and their “vassal forces”.
