North Korea, armed with nuclear weapons, fired two unidentified ballistic missiles from the middle of the country to the sea on the east coast, the South Korean Chiefs of Staff said.
“South Korean and US intelligence services are conducting a detailed analysis,” the committee said, without giving details of the missile’s range.
The rocket fire took place during a visit to South Korea by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Ji, who had previously visited North Korea.
On Monday, Pyongyang’s official news agency, KCNA, said that North Korea had tested a new type of long-range cruise missile over the weekend, calling the missile an “extremely important strategic weapon.”
The trials took place on Saturday and Sunday, according to KCNA.
The missiles flew 1,500 kilometers over North Korea and its territorial waters and hit targets.
The trials have been successful, and as a result, the state has another “effective deterrent against hostile forces,” according to the KCNA.
