Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A senior North Korean official criticized the United States for blocking a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine. The North Korean official even said that the American veto showed Washington’s “double standards”, North Korean state media KCNA said on Sunday (10/12/2023).

The United States vetoed a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza at the UN Security Council on Friday. America’s decision to veto the resolution on a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza at the UN Security Council (DK) forum received reactions from the world. Many countries disagree with Washington’s maneuver.

“The United States’ abuse of its veto power to protect its allies from massacring tens of thousands of civilians is not only a manifestation of illegal and unreasonable double standards, but also the height of inhumane evil,” said Kim Son Gyong, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister for international organizations, to KCNA quoted Reuters.

Kim said the United States was contradicting itself by allowing war in Gaza, while Washington condemned North Korea’s recent satellite launch that caused no harm to other countries.

Earlier, the national security advisers of the US, South Korea and Japan met on Saturday to reaffirm their coordinated response to the North Korean threat, as the North warned it would deploy more spy satellites.
