PYONGYANG, KOMPAS.TV – Hundreds of orphans in North Korea are known to be ‘volunteers’ for several menial jobs in various fields.
The news spread after North Korea’s state news agency (KCNA) made a report entitled ‘Voluntarily Work in Difficult Fields’, Saturday (29/5/2021).
The report states that there are more than 700 orphans who are claimed to work voluntarily in cooperative farming, iron and steel complexes, and forestry.
Earlier, Thursday (27/5/2021), the state media also reported that there were around 150 orphaned graduates from three schools who volunteered to work in coal mines and agriculture.
“(Orphaned school graduates) voluntarily work in major workplaces for socialist development on their wish to glorify their youth in the struggle for the prosperity of the country,” KCNA said in the report.
Unfortunately, KCNA did not clearly state the age range of the children, and only stated that the workers were high school graduates.
