North Korean authorities said they have tested the newly developed Hwasong-8 hypersonic missile. The launch was said to have been successful.
The tests took place at the launch site in Toyanri, Rengrim County, Chagang Province on Monday 27 September. The DPRK was notified of this a day later, writes Yonhap News Agency with reference to the Central News Agency of the country.
The propaganda broadcaster noted that the development of a hypersonic missile is “one of the top five priorities of the five-year strategic weapons plan for the development of defense science and the weapons system, formulated at the eighth party congress.”
This challenge, as stated in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, “is moving forward in a consistent and reliable development process.”
Recall that the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea was the first to notify the DPRK of the rocket launch on September 28. It was clarified that the projectile was directed into the Sea of Japan.
In 2021, this is the third such missile launch by the DPRK. Previous incident happened on September 15, and there were several launches. And a few days earlier, North Korea said that successfully tested long-range missiles.
At the same time, UN Security Council resolutions prohibit any activity with ballistic missiles in the DPRK.
