Three days after the successful operation to separate them, the two joint children are doing well at the North Kivu Provincial Hospital in Goma. The governor who visited them on Thursday 7 October was able to see this. This medical feat was successfully completed on Tuesday 4 October by a joint medical team from the provincial hospital and Heal Africa in Goma, assisted by videoconferencing by other doctors abroad.

This operation to separate Siamese children is the first in North Kivu. She succeeded thanks to the efforts of several doctors including surgeons, anesthetists, pediatricians and other specialists from the provincial and Heal Africa hospitals in Goma in collaboration with their colleagues from abroad via videoconference.

The twins, around two months old, are in good health. This success is an immense satisfaction for the pediatric surgeon, Dr. Anderson Kibanja who led the operation.

“The operational suites are so far, simple, there are no worries. The operation lasted 4 hours, we were able to separate the two children, they were glued by the left loins of each faith, because the two children had double it, the two gallbladders and the intestinal axes were not connected. Did it make it easy? No, it was not an easy operation because it is the first time we have done it here in Goma… ”, she explained.

Accompanying the daughters, transferred from the Bingi hospital to the Alimbongo health zone in the Lubero area, the mother of the twins, Kanyere Desanges, declares herself “the happiest in the world”.

She said she was grateful to the nursing staff and the provincial authority.

For his part, the medical director of the General Hospital of Goma, Dr. Sébastien Mata, underlined the commitment of this state structure to be able to offer the entire population quality care at a lower cost.

“We need equipment, staff and every day we equip ourselves in both medical imaging and in the operating room, at the level of our pediatric intensive care, adult intensive care, at the laboratory level, our emergencies and hospitalization, we try to provide the best “, indicated Dr. Sébastien Mata.

The twins will continue their treatment in the hospital before returning home and reuniting with the rest of the family in Lubero. All related costs were borne by the Province.
