Several people were trapped or missing and several homes were damaged in a tornado in southeastern North Carolina, authorities in Brunswick County said.
The tornado struck just after midnight Tuesday, damaging homes, ripping some of their foundations and breaking trees in half, according to WWAY-TV.
People were trapped in homes, the Brunswick County Emergency Management agency said. The Wilmington Fire Department tweeted that it would send teams to help find missing people.
The meteor also knocked down power lines and thousands of people were without power, according to the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation.
