North: an “actively wanted” detainee after escaping from Lille hospital

A detainee is “actively sought” this Thursday after escaping in the morning from the Lille University Hospital where he had been hospitalized since last Tuesday, AFP learned from the Lille prosecutor’s office and a police source.

This “41-year-old” man had been placed in pre-trial detention “after being referred on June 27 for acts of threats against persons holding public authority and driving under the influence of an alcoholic state”, indicated the Lille prosecutor’s office.

A man known for “violence on his ex-spouse”

“On June 28, his state of health required his extraction and his treatment, under police surveillance, by the psychiatric emergencies of the Lille University Hospital”, added the same source. But the man “escaped from the hospital” and “is actively sought”, continued the prosecution.

The interregional directorate of penitentiary services told AFP that the man was “under the custody of the national police”. A union source clarified that the man, notably known for “violence on his ex-spouse”, had fled around 10 a.m. Thursday.
