North: a student found hanged in his university residence

A student from the University of Villeneuve-d’Ascq (North) was found hanged, this Friday, April 16, in his university residence, revealed the regional daily La Voix du Nord.

According to our colleagues, the student’s body was discovered in his bedroom by his girlfriend.

The young man was 24 years old and was in his third year of a bachelor’s degree in psychology. According to the first elements, the student, monitor at the university library, did not present any difficulties in his course, but he had been suffering for several weeks from psychological problems.

At the announcement of this tragedy, the rector of the Hauts-de-France academic region Valérie Cabuil and the president of the University of Lille Jean-Christophe Clamart offered their condolences to his family. “The Rector, the president of the university and the director general wish to show them their support and their compassion and share with the university community a deep sadness”, they wrote jointly.

A special psychological support unit was opened from Friday afternoon to support students and staff affected by this new event.
