Norris is ready to wait years for McLaren to be good

Lando Norris ‘hasn’t lost faith at all’ in McLaren following the 2022 season and is prepared to wait “another couple of years” for the Woking stable to challenge for race wins.

The Zak Brown team was unable to take advantage of the 2022 rule changes and both of their drivers suffered with the MCL36 due to poor brake cooling, among other things. A slow start to the season saw the British team only finish 5th in the Constructors’ Championship after losing their battle with Alpine.

On top of all this, McLaren also lost one of its key people, Andreas Seidl. The German specialist became the CEO of Alfa Romeo and was replaced by Andrea Stella, who was previously Fernando Alonso’s racing engineer at Ferrari.

And Red Bull also dropped the bombshell that they were negotiating a possible contract with Norris when the British F1 future was still uncertain. However, the pole position holder of the 2021 Russian Grand Prix said at his team’s presentation that he has no plans to go anywhere and wants to remain loyal to the team that gave him the opportunity in the premier motorsport category.

“Sometimes it’s hard because I like to compete, and even more to win. It’s natural that sometimes the thought of switching crosses your mind, because you somehow want to get closer to your goals.”

“I continue to feel good here at McLaren. I have confidence in myself and, of course, in the team. I have to build myself up at this level, and for this it is essential that my faith in my team remains strong in the coming period.”

The Brit also added that “he is not yet clear about how they will develop this year”, but he is certain that “their last year was frustrating just because of the new rules, they would have had the opportunity to advance, but they didn’t were able to take advantage of this opportunity.”
