10 Sep 2023 at 00:41

The norovirus has broken out in the cardiology department of the Flevo Hospital in Almere. As a result, no new patients are admitted to the nursing ward of this department.

New patients are temporarily accommodated in other departments, the hospital reports.

Patients with norovirus complaints are nursed in separate rooms. The hospital has introduced extra cleaning rounds and is paying more attention to hand washing.

Visitors to hospitalized people are requested to wash their hands after their visit and leave the hospital immediately. Employees with complaints must stay at home until they have been free of complaints for 24 hours.

The norovirus causes inflammation of the intestines and is very contagious. It is also called stomach flu. The virus is found in the feces and vomit of someone who carries the virus. In most cases, the complaints disappear after 1 to 4 days. Complaints include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
