Norovirus detected in teenagers in Zakopane – Poland and the world

One of the teenagers treated in Zakopane was diagnosed with norovirus.

On Sunday, a group of teenagers with gastrointestinal symptoms were evacuated from the Valley of Five Lakes to a hospital in Zakopane. 14 people are ill, some of them hospitalized.

The spokeswoman for the Krakow Sanitary Inspectorate, Dominika Łatak-Glonek, informed that further tests are being conducted to determine whether norovirus is the cause of the illness of the group of teenagers from Mazovia. Material for testing was collected from three more people and will be tested in Krakow.

Norovirus infections are common worldwide, so most adults have antibodies against these viruses. In older children and adults, they are the most common cause of illness. In younger children, rotaviruses are more common.
