Returning to the beginning – live, acoustic performance, without the involvement of many instruments and complicated arrangement, pure piano and voice – this is the song “Words of the Power of the Earth”, which the singer Normunds Rutulis is proud of.
The song “Earth’s Power Words” is a collaboration between Maris Ozols and Normunds Rutulis. “The words of the power of the earth came at the right time and place, together with the right people, and without haste,” says Normunds Rutulis about the song. “When the stars are in the desired position, and the talents of people close to each other come together, this is the result. Although I often produce my recordings instrumentally and harmoniously rich, this time we went in the opposite direction. It’s riskier, but I’m pleased and happy to be able to dedicate another song to my Homeland. “
The author of the lyrics is Anita Rezevska. “The lines of poetry of the power of the earth were made on a sunny autumn day, taking a leisurely stroll through the parks of Pardaugava,” she recalls. “Lately, I have often wondered how blessed we are in Latvia to live in such a glorious nature. In my opinion, for generations, nature has been the symbol of Latvia’s land and state. Nature is an integral source of rest, inspiration, energy recovery and – yes, healing for every inhabitant of Latvia. I sent Maris a poem as an autumn greeting with photos of that day’s walk. I was amazed at how quickly and aptly, reading the mood of a peaceful walk in the verses and adding an anthemic splendor to the song, it turned into a song with an expressive piano accompaniment and melody. I think it is the return to the live, acoustic performance that addresses the strongest. And, of course, it is an opportunity for the listeners to hear, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful voices in Latvian music – Normunds Rutulis – in a nuanced and very close way. ”
Māris Ozols: “This time the story of the joint collaboration started thanks to Anita’s great poem. It conjured up a beautiful natural landscape for me, just like a painting where you can smell the “bitter smell of autumn leaves”, and it reminded me of the great wisdom of life – nature heals, refreshes without generating anything! I liked it. As I read the lines of poetry over and over again, they began to sound on their own, and the melody developed quite quickly. Undoubtedly, I addressed my friend, the owner of the great voice, Normunds, so that he would sing this song. Although it was originally planned that the song would be recorded with piano accompaniment and using a couple of other acoustic instruments, we decided together with Normunds that this is the performance – voice and piano, the song will sound best. ”
