Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is given in two numbers. These numbers are the systolic pressure i.e. the top number is the measurement of the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats. Diastolic pressure is the lowest number that measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats.
According to the NHS, healthy blood pressure readings are between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg. High blood pressure , also known as hypertension, is considered to be higher than 140/90 mmHg. Low blood pressure is less common and is considered anything below 90/60 mmHg.
