Norma Piña admits to processing two more consultations on judicial reform

Mexico City. The minister president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, admitted this Thursday to processing two more consultations to review the constitutionality of the reform to the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), already accumulating nine in the last two weeks.

Both consultations were turned over to Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, who since last Tuesday announced that her position is because the Court “does not have the power” to rule on the judicial reform as it concerns changes to the Constitution, an amendment that came into force on the 16th. last September.

The agreements on the consultations were published on the Court bench this Thursday, one under file 8/2024 promoted by magistrates who are members of the Collegiate Court of Appeal of the Tenth Circuit; The second file 9/2024 was promoted by magistrates and Circuit judges of the PJF.

“Turn this matter over to Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, as it is closely related to the pending consultations 5/2024, 6/2024, 7/2024 and 8/2024, in terms of the section,” instructed the presidency of the Court.

On October 3, the plenary session of the Supreme Court will discuss four projects with opposing positions of ministers on the consultations on the reform of the PJF.

Three are from Minister Esquivel, who is going to reject them, and one is from Minister Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá, who proposes a way to initiate the consultation that seeks to stop the constitutional amendment.
