Norma Piña accepts new consultations from judges on judicial reform

Mexico City. The president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN, Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, accepted for processing three new “queries” raised by judges and magistrates of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), and forwarded them to Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa to make a statement on the procedure to be followed, particularly regarding “the constitutionality of the decree that extinguishes the judicial career and dismisses” all justice administrators and appoints them by popular vote.

With these “consultations” in process of alleged cases seeking the legal way to reverse or suspend the effects of the judicial reform, whose decree was published on September 15, there are already six cases, three for the analysis of Esquivel Mossa; two to the minister Lenia Batres Guadarrama and one to the minister Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá.

According to information released by the SCJN, a consultation for processing is accepted “in the event that there is no clearly defined procedure to address a matter that comes to the Court, the President appoints a Minister to analyze it and propose to the Plenary of the Court itself the procedure or process that should be followed, so that it may determine what is appropriate.”
