There was a friend meeting when IFK Norrköping hosted IFK Gothenburg in the last round of the Allsvenskan. Some distance into the second half, at position 1-1, Carl Björk was pulled down in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Jonathan Levi stepped forward – who, however, did not choose to shoot on goal from eleven meters. Instead, he passed the ball sideways to Samuel Adegbenro who ran into the penalty area and shot the ball into goal, but the referee Kristoffer Karlsson chose to rule out the goal.
The reason? Offside, claims Adegbenro himself Norrköping’s newspapers. Beijing coach Rikard Norling was anything but happy with his offensive duo’s actions at the penalty spot.
– We lose a little momentum in connection with the penalty, we just have to take it right up and down and then we lose the match. I’m sitting here and I’m extremely disappointed, Norling tells NT and continues:
– I have said what I think to the players in there (in the locker room). It’s not that I’m standing and doing the tiger dance inside.
Samuel Adegbenro says that he and Jonathan Levi had planned to implement the, to say the least, odd penalty variant. Afterwards, the shooter king was remorseful:
– I apologize to the fans, it was the last match. We wanted to make them happy but we lost. We want to apologize to the fans, to the city and the coaches, says Adegbenro NT.
Jonathan Levi also commented on the situation:
– Of course I wanted Samuel to score. So they make it 2-1 after that. It’s clear that it’s sour. It’s not like I’ll pull the pillow over my head when I get home over it, but it’s clear I want to win to 100. We tried, but did not really come up with performance. But 2-1 would have been nice in that situation, he tells NT.
Yes, Beijing lost the match. Blåvitt midfielder Bernardo Vilar made it 1-2 with just over half an hour left to play, which was the end result.
