NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – “We have not talked about this specific case, but today wars are not fought only with tanks and rifles, but also through disinformation, fake news and above all through illegal insertions into communication systems”. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said this, speaking to journalists in New York, and responding to those who asked him if the fake phone call to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni by Russian comedians falls within the hybrid warfare strategies.
“I believe that we must work imaginatively in these cases, trying to anticipate what both large international criminal organizations can do when we talk about criminal law, and unfriendly states when they want to interfere in our politics – he continued -. We need to work with our imagination to understand how they can hit us with these new weapons which are essentially weapons of communication, of interference, weapons of spreading false and biased news. Also from this point of view there is an awareness on the part of other states, also because we are not the first victims of these forms of interference, that this problem exists, but we have not talked about it”.
