– We are very concerned and are examining what else we can do to help Ukraine and Moldova on energy matters, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said at a press conference during the Nordic Summit in Helsinki on Tuesday.
Recently, Russia attacked several power plants and grid-connected infrastructure in Ukraine. This has led to several hundred cities and towns running out of electricity.
Recently, Russia also cut gas supplies to Moldova. This led to a rise in gas prices, which in turn triggered major demonstrations in the capital Chisinau.
Marin says she is worried about the coming winter.
– We must ensure that critical infrastructure, such as energy infrastructure, is managed so that people can have as normal a life as possible in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) also promises to continue supporting Ukraine and neighboring Moldova. Norway has already donated NOK 100 million to Moldova to help the government with gas purchases.
– We must guarantee gas to Ukraine so that they can survive the winter. Everyone should support them in this, we also discussed Moldova. It is a small country with few resources that is under great pressure. Gas must be guaranteed after Russia cuts off gas to Moldova. We need to find a way to support them, Støre said at a press conference.
