Northern Investment Bank (“Nordic Investment Bank” or NIB) opened its regional office in Riga on Thursday, NIB informs.
Initially, NIB’s new office will serve as a work and meeting place, and at a later stage it will become a regional business center that will strengthen cooperation between the bank and its clients in the Baltic countries.
The opening of the office is in line with NIB’s strategy to increase investments in the Baltic States, which until now has been a less-served market segment. By establishing the Baltic Regional Center, NIB aims to expand lending to Baltic private sector companies.
“Riga is an ideal location for our regional center – it will strengthen the bank’s investments and visibility in the Baltic region, and Riga provides excellent air connections to the Nordic and Baltic countries. We are grateful to the Latvian government for the welcome and successful cooperation from the moment we revealed our plans to establish the bank’s regional center here,” comments NIB President and CEO Andrė Kūsveks.
NIB’s new Baltic States regional office is located in the “Citadel” business center, which is close to other financial institutions, state institutions and cooperation partners.
Latvia joined the NIB in 2005 together with the other Baltic states. The bank has been investing in the country since 1995, and its total investment amounts to approximately 1.5 billion euros, financing more than 120 projects. The latest projects financed by NIB in Latvia are the investment programs of “Rīga heat” and “Latvenergo”, the development of “Press House Quarter” and the Ķekava bypass project.
NIB is an international financial institution whose shareholders are eight Nordic countries – Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland and Sweden. The bank finances private and public projects in member states and abroad.
