Nordic Choice gets urgent meeting with the Minister of Labor on the layoff scheme on Wednesday – E24

Despite the Storting’s presidency saying no to cancel the Storting’s holiday to vote on an extension of the layoff scheme, the hotel chain does not give up hope of a clarification before the summer.

ASKING FOR HELP: Petter Stordalen’s Nordic Choice has notified Nav that there is a danger of mass redundancies. The chain has repeatedly asked the government to extend the layoff period to 52 weeks.

On Wednesday, July 1, Petter Stordalen-owned Nordic Choice will be in urgent meeting with Labor Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H).

This is done after repeated inquiries from the hotel chain to the government about the need to extend the layoff period.

The meeting was originally scheduled for August 31, but it meant Nordic Choice was too long.

It would then be too late to discuss the problem, HR Manager Karin Sjögren wrote in a letter to the government last week, according to Today’s business, and now there is a meeting.

Has notified Nav of danger of termination

Nordic Choice is grateful that Røe Isaksen took place in the calendar for a conference call this week, says press contact Geir Økland in the hotel chain for E24.

– We are excited to hear what the Minister has to say about why one waits when both parties, both the employee and employer organization, think we need an action and clarification on this side of the summer to avoid dismissals, says Økland.

– We also expect that we can help to give a clear picture of how the crisis is experienced for the tourism industry, he says.

Økland admits that the hope that there will actually be an explanation now is dwindling.

On Monday morning, it became clear that the Storting’s presidency said no to cancel the Storting’s holiday to vote on an extension of the layoff scheme, according to VG.

– We got renewed hope when Frp opened to urgently convene the Storting, but it faltered again when the vote in the presidency came today, says Økland.

– We still don’t give up and work every day to save as many jobs as possible, he says.

The hotel chain has on several occasions been clear that there will be large-scale redundancies if the lay-off period is not extended beyond the current scheme, and most preferably to 52 weeks.

Nordic Choice has now announced to Nav that there is a danger of mass redundancies, says Økland.

– How many people risk losing their job in Nordic Choice?

– We have not done those calculations, says Økland.

May come in August

Prime Minister Erna Solberg said before the weekend that there will be a new meeting with the social partners in August, and opened at the same time that the layoff period will be extended if the job situation remains as it is today.

The pressure to extend the layoff period has been great and has come from many sides. Both LO, Virke and NHO support an expansion.

The maximum limit of 26 weeks for layoffs has been raised during previous crises to avoid unnecessary redundancies. During the oil crisis it was extended to 52 weeks.

In connection with the revised national budget, it was agreed to extend the scheme to 30 weeks.
