The “criminal journey” is a new form of investigation. Unlike a classic investigation that starts from a crime to find a culprit, this one focuses on the life of an already known criminal, his places of residence, his movements, to find possible other victims by taking up the unsolved cases that have gone through the their path.

The “cold cases” hub is investigating several names of criminals who might fall into this category, according to a close source. For the moment he has therefore chosen three: Nordhal Lelandais, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of little Maëlys De Araujo and 20 years for that of corporal Arthur Noyer; Patrice Alègre, sentenced to life imprisonment for five murders, six rapes and one attempted murder; Willy Van Coppernolle, repeat offender, sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and also rapist.

In total, the hub, the creation of which was foreseen by the law on trust in the judicial institution promulgated on 23 December 2021, has already identified 193 cases that are likely to take over. For the time being, it has only accepted 37 cases, the Nanterre court indicated during a progress report organized on Tuesday, September 13. Of these 37 cases, 35 are the subject of judicial investigation: these are 25 murders, seven kidnappings and the three “criminal races” mentioned. The two remaining cases concern acts of rape and are the subject of preliminary investigations.
