Nord Stream 2 may not be launched until the end of the year – German regulator

The Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), the German regulator for the country’s energy market, said on Friday that the regulator is in contact with the Nord Stream 2 AG consortium, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

BNetzA is also reviewing applications submitted by Ukrainian gas companies to participate in the pipeline certification process.

The German regulator must certify the pipeline by early January.

“We are in talks with Nord Stream 2 AG and expect that the necessary guarantees will be provided. We are closely monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements,” the statement said.

Earlier this month, BNetzA asked the pipeline operator, the Swiss company Nord Stream 2 AG, to ensure that all regulatory requirements were met before the pipeline was put into operation.
