(gs) A large fire in a warehouse complex for the production of automobile parts in the industrial area of Bruchsal in Baden-Württemberg kept over 300 fire fighters in suspense all night.
Initially, the control center was alerted by the triggering of an automatic fire alarm system, but before the first alerted fire brigades were deployed, the control center received countless emergency calls from meter high flames from a hall. On site, the fire fighters then encountered a real inferno: A warehouse was in flames when the first forces arrived on the entire area of 100×20 meters, these blazed meters high into the night sky, there were repeatedly detonations from inside.
The warehouse belongs to a large corporate group that recently opened its location in Bruchsal. Injection molding work for the production of automotive parts takes place in the warehouse. Large quantities of wood, plastics and machines as well as fuel were stored in the hall, according to the fire department on site. Due to the extreme heat and flying sparks, the fire threatened to spread to an adjacent hall that was twice as large. In addition to two turntable ladders, an extinguishing robot (LUF60) was used to support the extinguishing measures.
The police do not report any injuries. The Bruchsal-Karlsruhe railway line is currently closed due to the fire and the extinguishing work. The fire fighting will continue for several hours. How it came to the fire is still unclear. The amount of damage is in the millions.
