None of you have to retire, but none of you will play next year either: BCCI; Report

The massive defeat in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup rocked the Indian Cricket Board. Since the inclusion of those who didn’t fit the format into the squad, the out of form of many senior players including captain Rohit Sharma was a setback for India.

Rohit Sharma, KL Raul, R. Senior players like Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik have all failed in the World Cup. Supporters demanded that the senior players be replaced immediately by fit youngsters.

Fans were clamoring for Indian captain Rohit Sharma to be removed as captain.

The next edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in 2024. BCCI is likely to consider Hardik Pandya for the T20 captaincy. After Pandya captained T20, India was able to perform well in the series.

Now, reports are emerging that the position of senior players in the T20 format will be at Trishank. BCCI sources suggest there will be no senior players in next year’s T20 campaign.

A BCCI official, who declined to be named, told PTI the board has not told anyone to retire and senior players will have no chance next year.

“The board has not asked anyone to withdraw. Very few T20 matches are scheduled for 2023. Players mainly play ODIs and Tests.

“There is no need for anyone to announce retirement, but many senior players will not be playing in the T20 format from next year,” the BCCI official added.

At the same time, the main focus of the Indian team is the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year. The Indian team can try to change the bad name of not winning the ICC title for a long time in front of their fans.

India’s recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand was devoid of senior players including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik’s team consisted of young players.

India won the three match series 1-0. India reclaimed the series after one match was abandoned due to rain and the other ended in a draw.
