Non-traditional Peruvian exports totaled USD 18,468 million in 2023

Non-traditional exports have maintained a growing trend in recent years. In 2023, shipments totaled USD 18,468 million in 2023, which represented an increase of 1.5% compared to what was registered the previous year (USD 18,187 million), reported the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ). .

With this result, non-traditional exports constituted 29% of total exports in 2023 and compared to pre-pandemic levels (USD 13,819 million) represents a growth of 33.6%.

In 2023, the shipments were sent by 8,281 companies, of which 91% are MSMEs. In addition, 4,790 products were exported to 178 markets on five continents.

Four of the main sectors that make up non-traditional exports showed growth: agriculture (USD 9,163 million), fishing (USD 1,759 million), non-metallic mining (USD 1,194 million) and mechanical metal (USD 727 million).

Meanwhile, five countries were the main destination markets: the United States (USD 5,663 million), the Netherlands (USD 1,508 million), Chile (USD 1,201 million), Ecuador (USD 970 million) and China (USD 952 million).

Non-traditional regional exports

Peru’s regions play an important role in driving export growth. Along these lines, non-traditional regional exports in 2023 totaled USD 11,000 million, which reflected an increase of 6.9% compared to what was registered during 2022. In total, 2,819 companies exported 2,316 products to 143 markets.

Compared to pre-pandemic levels (USD 7,743 million), non-traditional shipments made by the regions represent a growth of 42.1%.

Five regions of the country recorded the highest export amounts. The list is headed by the Piura region, with shipments of USD 2,996 million, followed by Ica (USD 2,553 million), La Libertad (USD 2,225 million), Lambayeque (USD 817 million) and Arequipa (USD 575 million).

Meanwhile, five other regions reported the highest growth rates. This is Junín, with an increase of 62%; Ica (21%), Cusco (20%), Ayacucho (14%) and Áncash (9%).

In general terms, total Peruvian exports totaled USD 64,355 million, 1.1% more than the previous year (USD 63,642 million).
