NON GRATA performance at the opening of the international festival Printmaking IN Baltic contemporary exhibition “Pārmaiņu kūda” on June 10 at 17.00 In the exhibition hall “Rīga art room” the opening of the international festival Printmaking IN Baltic contemporary exhibition “Pārmaiņu kūda” will take place. The legendary, international collective of artists NON GRATA will take part in the event.

NON GRATA is an international collective of performance artists with around 40 members – mainly from Estonia, but also from Quebec, Finland, Sweden, Germany, the USA, France and Chile. The main characteristic of the participants is their anonymity when working in a group. NON GRATA has performed in Asia, Europe, South America and North America.

For those for whom art begins where the art world ends, NON GRATA have been liberators, creating a fascinating gap in the seemingly unalterable current that betrays us – they cure us of incest. The basic position of the group is ethical – it is a representation of the primitive, impersonal and experimental. The group’s performances are guided by a logic that avoids codes. Aesthetic and provocative challenges can be seen in places where the art world has no influence.

At the opening event of the exhibition, the international collective of artists NON GRATA will be joined by the Mexican artist Dr. Kontra and Morgan Schagerberg from Sweden. Artist Kate Seržane from Latvia will take part in the performance, while DJ Krii or Kristaps Krievs will take care of the audio enjoyment of the event.

As previously reported, from the beginning of June to the end of August of this year, the international graphic arts festival “Printmaking IN” will be held in Riga, the central event of which is the exhibition of contemporary Baltic graphics, which will take place from June 11 to August 6, 2023 in the exhibition hall “Riga Art Space “.

A significant number of Baltic artists of different generations, who have reflected on the subject of change in their artwork, participate in the exhibition of Baltic contemporary graphics – the theme of the festival this year is “Ahead of Change”. It is a reference both to the currently prevailing feelings in society about a possible change in the world order, and to those changes that inevitably happen to everything and everyone, as matter gradually collapses and transforms into other elements.

Latvia will be represented at the exhibition by artists Aija Bley, Elīna Elere, Marta Folkmane, Raitis Hrolovićs, Mārīte Kluša, Ernests Kļaviņš, Leonards Laganovskis, Ilze Lībiete and Jānis Murovskis, Estonia – Peeter Allik, Jüri Arrak, Anonymous Boh, Toomas Kuusing, Leonhard Lapin, Regina- Mareta Soonsein and Taje Tross, and Lithuania – Vaiva Kovieraitė Trumpė, Evaldas Mikalauskis, Mikolajus Vilutis and Marta Vosylite.

The festival is organized by “Grafikas kamera” and “Academia Gustaviana” in cooperation with the exhibition hall “Rīgas Mākslas telpa” of the Association of Cultural Institutions of Riga Municipality, the association “Viela”, GRUNDULIS, HolonSite, “Če”, “1983”, radio NABA, advertising company “Abi 2”, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Latvia, the Latvian Academy of Arts, “Welton Hotels” and SIA “NAMI”.
