Non-Gender Awards: Status Quo at ADISQ

The organizers of the ADISQ Gala are not ready to follow the example of their colleagues Gémeaux and have abandoned the gender categories.

ADISQ prefers the status quo so as not to disadvantage female artists. “We believe that parity within the industry is still very fragile and that the time has not yet come to withdraw five prestigious nominations for women in music,” said Julie Gariépy, executive producer and director of galas at ADISQ, in a message sent to Magazine.

However, he indicated that the retention of the “Female Interpreter” category “is being studied by the ADISQ” and that, as part of its annual regulatory review process, “we will continue to reflect, having two main objectives, to be the most inclusive and equal as possible”.

On Monday, Gemini management announced that, in an effort to streamline the number of categories at the annual Television Industry Awards, the awards for acting will now be gender-neutral.

At the ADISQ, the awards for male and female performers of the year have been awarded since the first Gala de l’ADISQ, in 1979. During the last presentation of the gala, the Félixes were won by Hubert Lenoir and Roxane Brunau.
