“Borisov wanted to get the composition of the cabinet within one weekend. Then academician Nikolay Denkov called me and I accepted”. This was stated by the nominee for Minister of Defense in the “Denkov” Cabinet – Prof. Todor Tagarev in the program “The Day ON AIR”.
He called for a formula to be found to form a regular government, whether with the first or second term.
“What the technology will be is a matter of leadership skills on the part of the two political forces, it depends on them to find an agreement for Bulgaria to follow the Euro-Atlantic path”, the guest is convinced.
He recalled Asen Vassilev’s statement that 2/3 of PP-DB voters disapprove of governance with GERB-SDS.
“Hopefully a governing formula will be found, it is clear that PP-DB risk losing their voters. But both parties must make concessions. The ball is in GERB-SDS court, I am not sure that they will give support for the second term, I am not sure that I will become a minister. But the best option would be to have a government,” Prof. Tagarev also told Bulgaria ON AIR.
The nominees for the Minister of Defense specified that there are no significant differences in the programs of PP-DB and GERB-SDS on defense issues. In his words – I must have the right people in the right positions, and then it won’t matter which cabinet is in charge.
“He should support the modernization of the army, not just populist ideas for high salaries and pensions. Political support is needed,” commented the interlocutor.
His calculations show that the planned 6.5 billion for modernization will not be enough for the planned projects, which are for 12 billion. Prof. Tagarev expressed hope that Bulgaria will be ready to welcome the new fighters by 2025. The stripping of the air defense of our country defined as “frivolous defense policy”.
