Nominations for Latino Films to be Included in National Film Registry

San Antonio Congressman Joaquín Castro and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus have nominated 27 films with a Latino background for inclusion in the National Film Registry.

The list, which was selected from hundreds of public suggestions, includes movies like “Blood In Blood Out,” “Frida,” and “Like Water for Chocolate.”

There are currently 24 Latino films in the registry, which constitutes less than 3 percent of the 850 films preserved.

Castro and the Caucus have already managed to add “Selena” and “La balada de Gregorio Cortez” to the record through their collaboration.
