The three candidates Dr. Thomas Kalkbrenner, Dr. Jörg Siebenmorgen and Dipl.-Phys. Ralf Wolleschensky found an approach to examine living objects with high-resolution fluorescence microscopy without affecting them. To do this, they expanded the so-called grating light sheet microscopy and combined it with innovative optical elements. This opens up entirely new possibilities for tracing and better understanding processes in cells – in basic research and in the search for new diagnostic methods or active ingredients against many diseases.
