Nokia signs new patent deal with Samsung

“Under the agreement, which includes Nokia’s fundamental inventions in the field of (fifth-generation mobile networks) 5G and other technologies, Samsung will pay Nokia fees for several years starting January 1, 2023,” the Finnish company said. She added that details of the terms of the agreement are confidential.

“Samsung is a leader in the smartphone industry and we are pleased to have reached an amicable agreement with them,” said Jenni Lukander, head of Nokia’s patent division. “The agreement gives both businesses the freedom to innovate and reflects Nokia’s strong patent portfolio,” she added.

In the past, Nokia stopped making phones and focused on the production of communication network equipment and licensing. In December, the company agreed to extend its licensing agreement with Chinese smartphone maker Huawei, Bloomberg reported.
